Death of James H. Adkins

James H. Adkins, who has resided in this county for a number of years, died early Tuesday morning at the home of his son, George Adkins. Mr. Adkins, who was 74 years of age, had been ill for the past two weeks. He was born in Menard county, Illinois, August 31, 1855, and came to Iowa in the fall of 1876. Most of his early life was devoted to farming. He was married to Josephine Hetzler, March 5, 1879, and she died February 25, 1883. After her death he moved to Winterset and worked as a butcher for many years.

He leaves one son, George Adkins, three grandchildren, one great grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Anna Armstrong of Manson.

The Rev. F. Clare McCallon conducted the funeral services Wednesday, March 6th, at 2:30 o'clock, at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
