Dessie Leo Meader, 99, of Winterset, died Nov. 6, 1997 at Winterset Care Center South. Funeral services were held Nov. 9 at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro. The Rev. Joan White of Truro officiated the service, and burial followed at the Peru Cemetery.
She was born May 16, 1898. near Peru, to James and Mary Adeline (Porter) Decker. She was educated in rural Peru schools. On Feb. 21, 1917, she married Harry Lyle Meader in Winterset. She was a housewife and spent most of her life near Peru, excluding the few years she spent in Dayton. She was a member of the Deer Creek Chapel Church near Peru.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sons; one brother; four sisters; and one infant brother.
Surviving relatives include one son, Nick Meader of Shelton, Minn; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Meader of Peru; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Dessie Leo Meader, the daughter of James and Mary Adeline Porter Decker, was born May 16, 1898, near Peru and died Nov. 6, 1997, at the Winterset Care Center South. She was 99.
She was educated in the Peru county schools and married Harry Lyle Meader on Feb. 21, 1917, in Winterset. The couple became the parents of four children.
Mrs. Meader, a homemaker, lived in the Peru area most of her life except for the few years she lived near Dayton.
She was member of Deer Creek Chapel near Peru.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1972; three sons, Leo, Clarence and Harry Lyle Meader jr.; two brothers, Elmer and Walter in infancy and four sisters, Lillie, Dorothy, Bertha and Beulah.
Mrs. Meader is survived a son Nick Meader of Shelton, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Meader of Peru; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Services for Mrs. Meader were at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, Pastor Joan White officiating. Organist Pennie Gonseth played the hymns In the Garden and The Old rugged Cross.
Casket bearers were Mike Dutton, Tony Stephenson, Bob McKeever, Craig Rudolf, John Harper and Jerry McKeever. Interment was in the Peru Cemetery.
