Dorothy Travis, Joplin, Mo.

Dorothy Valeria Travis, 88, of Joplin, Mo., died of congestive heart failure Oct. 21, 1997 at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Graveside services were held Oct. 24 at the Peru Cemetery with Pastor Jon Gaul officiating. Burial followed.

She was born in Madison County on August 18, 1909 to Guile Ersley and Theodora Thankful (Holt) Macumber. She was a 1927 graduate of Winterset High School, and on June 6, 1930, she married Harold E. Travis in Winterset. She lived in Madison County until 1982 before moving to Joplin, Mo. She was a retired teacher, homemaker, and baby-sitter. She was also a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers; and four sisters.

Surviving relatives include one sister-in-law, Betty Macumber of Winterset; one special niece, Pat Leutzinger of Joplin, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
