Irene Arlee Spencer, 73, of Peru, died of complications of heart surgery August 2, 1997 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were August 5 at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Ed Poston officiating. Burial followed at the Peru Cemetery.
She was born in Peru on May 18, 1924 to John and Leona (Vanetta) Datwyler. She was a 1942 graduate of Peru High School and on September 7, 1950, she married Robert Spencer in Winterset. She was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of Peru. She was also a member of the Chit-Chat Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Surviving relatives include her husband; one son, Charles Spencer and wife Mille of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Cheryl Zickefoose and husband Ernest of Yale and Lorene Swanson and husband Jack of West Des Moines; one brother, Wilson Datwyler of Peru; three sisters, Edna Wolverton of Winterset, Laura Clague of Winterset, and Velma Struve of Irwin, and five grandchildren.
