Pauline Austin, 77, of Winterset, died of cancer March 7, 1996 at her daughter's home in Peru. Funeral services were March 11 at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Pastor John Long officiated the services and burial was at the Peru Cemetery.
She was born in Peru on June 28, 1918 to Ernest and Sadie (Gilbert) Nichols. She married Ivan Wilson Austin on Oct. 23, 1937 in Winterset. She was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of the county. She was a member of the Madison County Historical Society; a former member of the Barney Ladies Aid; and a member of the former Barney Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; one sister, and one granddaughter.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Donna Tuttle and husband Tom of Peru and Pat West and husband Don of Indianola; two brothers-in-law, Forrest Austin and Wife Janice of Afton and Jerry Austin and wife Carolyn of St. Charles; three sisters-in-law, Florence Searl of Winterset, Eva Oglesbee of Winterset and Frieda Dodd and husband Joe of Camdenton, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Middle River Hospice.
