Death of Mrs. John Martin

On Friday morning occurred the death of Mrs. Frances Smith Martin as a result of apoplexy which attacked her Tuesday morning.

Mrs. Martin was a native of this county, having been born on the Hiram Smith homestead west of Winterset, 58 years ago, growing to womanhood there. After her marriage to John Martin, 40 years ago, her home continued to be in this county, her death in Winterset coming at the culmination of a useful happy life.

Her mother, Mrs. Jane Smith and a sister, Mrs. A. d. Crow of Macksburg, survive her in addition to the members of her own household.

Mrs. Martin was a highly respected woman among associates who had know her during her lifetime and her going brings great grief to all who knew her, especially her aged mother, who is prostrated by her daughter’s death.

Rev. Jackson Giddens conducted funeral services Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church.
