Bernice (Bernie) Ruth Freeman, Winterset

Funeral services for Bernice (Bernie) Ruth Freeman, 75, were held Mon., May 13 at Kale Funeral Home, Truro, with the Rev. Tapiwa Mucherera of Truro officiating. She died May 10 at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines.

A lifelong Truro resident who moved to Winterset this spring, she was born to Omer Perry and Kate (Clarke) Beverlin in Peru December 29, 1915 and graduated from Peru High School. She married Lester E. Freeman February 28, 1937 in Des Moines. She was a housewife, 50 year member of Order of the Eastern Star (now model Chapter #174 in St. Charles), member of Women's Guild, United Methodist Church in Truro, and United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband, Lester "Bang" Freeman of Winterset; two daughters, Dee Stites and husband, Jerry, of Nekoosa, Wis. and Sharon Breeding and husband, Wayne, of Winterset; two sons, Vic Freeman and wife, Susan, of Ankeny and Scott Freeman and wife, Moni, of Truro; three brothers, Corwin Beverlin of Winterset, Carroll Beverlin of Peru, and Jim Beverlin of Newton; a sister, Reva Thomas of Littleton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Peru Cemetery.

WINTERSET, IA. —Bernie Freeman, 75, of Winterset died of cancer Friday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be a 1 p.m. Monday at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, with burial in the Peru Cemetery.

Mrs. Freeman was born in Peru and lived most of her life in Truro. She was a member of Women’s Guild, the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Lester; two sons, Vic of Ankeny and Scott of Truro; two daughters, Dee Stites of Nekoosa, Wis., and Sharon Breeding of Winterset; three brothers, Corwin Beverlin of Winterset, Carroll Beverlin of Peru and Jim Beverlin of Newton; a sister, Reva Thomas of Littleton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; an four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison County Historical Society.
