Melvin "Booggie" Hager, Winterset

Services for Melvin "Booggie" Hager, 88, Winterset, who died July 23 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital were held Wednesday, July 26, at Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Epperson officiating. Burial was at the Peru Cemetery.

Born in Sarpy County, Neb., on Sept. 25, 1900, he was the son of Frank and Nellie Vandewater Hager. He was retired from the railroad and had worked with the section gang. He was married to Lena Mae Estell. He grew up around Greenfield and resided in Peru for around 30 years.

Survivors include sons, Eddie, Bobby, and Ronnie, all of Winterset; daughters, Phyllis Garrison of Winterset and Patty Akers of Winterset; brothers, Henry of Greenfield; a half-brother, Eugene of Fort Dodge; step-brothers , Gerald Smith of Worland, Wyo., Russell Smith of Ankeny, Donald Smith of Creston, and Lester Smith of Harlan; a sister, Clara Hoadley of Creston; a half-sister, Retta Rundlett of Waterloo; and step-sisters, Elsie Meinsenhelmer of Omaha, Neb., and Ethel Grant of West Des Moines; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a son an infant, a brother, two half-brothers, two step-brothers, two sisters and two step-sisters.
