Winona D. Fuller, 98, longtime resident of Earlham, died Jan. 8, 2006, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 12, at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Pastor Charlie Thompson officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery.

Winona Fuller was born Sept. 1, 1907, to Guy and Ella (Drewer) McCain of Blunt in Hughes County, S.D., and received her education in the Doland Schools. She worked at a jewelry store in Audubon, did housework and also worked at the canning factory in Dexter. On Dec. 25, 1929, she married Rex Fuller. They farmed in the Dexter, Stuart, and Earlham areas before moving to Earlham in 1962. Winona was a 66-year member of the Earlham Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and a member of the Joy De Vie Card Club and Earlham Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four sisters, Leola Stallings, Vera McCain, Lois McBride and Aletha Mowell; a brother, Mayo McCain; and two great-grandsons, Josh Cook and Daniel Jones.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Young of Winterset; one son, LeRoy Fuller of Earlham; a brother, Glen McCain of Des Moines; a sister, Mary Christensen of Rogers, Ark.; and nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held for Winona D. Fuller on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham, Iowa. Pastor Charlie Thompson officiated.

Special music was “Whispering Hope”, “Precious Lord Take My Hand”, “His Eye is On The Sparrow”.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Young, Bryan Young, Douglas Fuller, Leslie Fuller, Ron Kirkland, Dale Weeks, Steve Link, Jason Ewers, Brian Kirscher. Honorary pallbearers were: Denise Kirkland, Vikki Weeks, Barbi Holtry, Marcia Link, Renee Fuller, Jacque Young, and Julie Young.

Winona D. Fuller was born the daughter of Guy and Ella Drewer McCain at the family home in Hughes Co., Blunt, South Dakota on September 1, 1907 and died at the West Bridge Care and Rehab Center in Winterset, Iowa on January 8, 2006 at the age of 98 years, 4 months and 7 days.

Winona received her education in the Doland Schools. She then worked at a jewelry store in Audubon, Iowa, did housework and also worked at the canning factory in Dexter where she met Rex Fuller. Winona and Rex were married December 25, 1929. This union was blessed with two children: Barbara and LeRoy. Winona and Rex worked for farmers near Dexter, Stuart and Earlham before renting a farm in 1937 near Earlham. In 1948 they moved to a farm southwest of Earlham, where they lived until 1962 when they moved into Earlham. Winona loved to garden and raised flowers, canned garden vegetables, raised chickens and sold eggs. She was good at handicrafts and sewing. She made afghans for all the grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Joy DeVie Card Club, the Earlham Garden Club, a 66 year member of the Earlham Methodist Church and the UMW. Winona loved feeding and watching birds. She loved to go shopping and especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

Winona is survived by her daughter Barbara Young of Winterset; son LeRoy Fuller and wife Maxine of Earlham; brother Glen McCain and wife Winifred of Des Moines; sister Mary Christensen and husband John of Rogers, AK; grandchildren Kenneth Young and wife Julie of Grinnell; Denise Kirkland and husband Ronald of Macksburg, Vickki Weeks and husband Dale of Winterset; Bryan Young an wife Jacque of Des Moines; Barbie and Brian of Lorimor; Douglas Fuller and wife Renee of Waukee; Marcia Link and husband Steve of Stuart; Leslie Fuller and wife Tracy of Pella; Sherie Ewers and husband Jason of Sheridan, WY; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and 2 step great-grandchildren.

Winona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rex Fuller; sisters Leola Stallings; Vera McCain and Lois McBride; brother Mayo McCain; son-in-law Donald M. Young and great-grandsons Josh Cook and Daniel Jones.

Interment was held in the Earlham Cemetery in Earlham, Iowa. Kuhn Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
