Helen Corene Spellerberg, 95, of Truro and formerly of Osceola died Aug. 17, 1999, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 20, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Marty Burgus officiating. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Clarke County.
Helen Spellerberg was born Nov. 26, 1903, in Clarke County to Alva and Lizzie (Kirk) Simmerman. She was educated in country schools and received her teaching certification from Cedar Falls. She married Oscar Fields Spellerberg on March 16, 1921, in Osceola. A lifelong resident of Clarke County, Helen was a homemaker. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star (a 50-year member at Lorimor before transferring to Winterset Chapter 180) and the Christian Church in Osceola.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, three sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by a daughter, Edna Mae Parker (husband Lee) of Truro; a son, Merrill Spellerberg of Murray; a sister, Mary Kirby of Perry; a brother, Aubrey Simmerman of Truro; a sister-in-law, Genivieve Simmerman of Murray; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church in Osceola.
