Charles E. Bohrer, son of Elijah and Eliza Spielman Bohrer, was born November 5, 1872 near Berkly Springs, in Morgan County, West Virginia.
When still a small boy he and his family moved to Wray, Colorado, where his father had a cattle ranch. At first the family lived in a sod house. When he grew older, he rode the range for a number of years, until 1890 when he came to Iowa to farm.
On March 15, 1899 he was united in marriage to Florence Hale at Yorktown, Iowa.
To this union, three children were born: Boyd Bohrer of Laurens; Mrs. Beulah Goeldner of Earlham; and Mrs. Clarice Booth of Amherst, Massachusetts.
He spent many years as a successful farmer in Page County, near Clarinda, having a great love for his land and his livestock.
In 1948 he sold the farm and he and his wife bought a home in Earlham. Here he soon became a part of the community life.
He was a member of the Earlham Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, son, two daughters, six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Laura Wilkinson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; a step-mother, Mrs. Minnie Bohrer Searcy and a half sister, Benerda Bohrer of Wray, Colorado; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
