FLOY AMY

Floy Amy, daughter of John Bard and Cedate Wilbur Anderson Amy, was born in Douglas Township, Madison County, Iowa on July 28, 1882 and passed away at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa on Monday morning February 28, 1977 at the age of 94 years and 7 months. She had been a resident of Villa West Care Center in Winterset since June of 1973. Floy spent her girlhood on a farm south of Earlham and received her education in the public schools of Madison County. She was affiliated with the Worthington Methodist Church.

In 1913, she moved with her mother and brother Lee to Willard, Colorado where they homesteaded on a ranch. They later moved to Sterling, Colorado and Floy worked as a cook in the schools at Sterling. In 1948 she came back to Iowa to make her home with her sister and husband, Maud and Luther McDonald. Mr. McDonald passed away in 1950, but the two sisters continued to live on the farm until Maud's death in 1969.

Floy then went to make her home with her close friends, John E. and Lenore Brown. After Lenore's death, Floy lived for a short time in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Morris. On April 1, 1971 she went to make her home with Mr. and Mrs. Orville Henry where she remained until her failing health made it necessary that she be moved to the Villa West Care Center. Floy was a very kind and loving person, always willing to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed outdoor life, and had a great love for horses and cattle. She was a very witty person and had many interesting stories to tell of her experiences during the early years of her life.

Floy was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Guy, Ralph and Clifford Amy, and her sister, Maud McDonald. She is survived by one brother, Lee Amy of Denver, Colorado, other relatives and many friends.
