Obituary of John Klingman -

John Klingman was born in Union county, Pennsylvania, September 6, 1819 and at the age of 6 years moved with his parents to Center county, Pennsylvania, where he lived until the age of 16 years.

At this place he was apprenticed to learn the wagon wood work trade following that occupation until 1867 when building his own wagon he removed with his family to Madison county, Iowa, settling on the farm in Madison township, where he resided until his death October 15, 1908, aged 89 years, 1 month and 9 days.

He was married September 6, 1846 to Miss Elizabeth Sims of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, locating in Cambridge, Guernsey county, Ohio, which was their home until their immigration to the far-away Iowa land.

Grandpa Klingman is survived by two sons and six daughters, all of whom with his youngest brother were with him during the greater part of his illness, also eighteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He bore his sickness with great patience, longing for the time when he should be at rest. From early manhood he had been a faithful and earnest christian, being a charter member of the Worthington M. E. church, from which place the funeral service was held on Friday, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Sprague of Earlham, and his remains laid to rest in the Worthington cemetery by the side of his wife, who proceeded him in the year 1894.
