Death of W. E. Grismer

Walter Eugene Grismer, of Mitchellville, a former resident of Winterset, died last Thursday morning at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, following a stroke of apoplexy. It is stated that Mr. Grismer had been in Winterset last Wednesday, attending to matters of business, and on his way home, suffered a stroke. He was taken to the hospital and died during the night.

Mr. Grismer, who was 62 years of age, was born in Hickory Grove, Illinois, July 10, 1867. Mr. Grismer received his education in the public schools at Evansville, Indiana, where he was graduated from the high school. In 1881, he came to Iowa, and he located at Mitchellville, and was for some time employed by the Rock Island Railroad company. He also engaged in the drug business and worked in a bank at Mitchellville. In 1901 he came to Winterset, and the following year he left his position with the Rock Island to accept the position of assistant cashier of the Winterset Savings bank. In 1909 he accepted the position of cashier of the First National bank, and he continued in this work until he moved to Mitchellville, 10 years ago.

Mr. Grismer was married on Christmas day, in 1888, to Miss Gertrude E. Flower. Mr. Grismer is survived by his wife. One daughter, Anna, born to them, died a number of years ago.

Funeral services for Mr. Grismer were conducted at the Congregational church at Mitchellville, Saturday, December 7th, at 2 o'clock, and burial was made there.
