Obituaries - Joe Neidt, Truro

Joe William Neidt, 73, of Truro, died March 27, 1994 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb. Funeral services are Fri., April 1, 1994 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Truro. The Rev. Terri Elder of Truro and Anne Marie Alta of Council Bluffs will officiate. Burial will be at Young Cemetery in Truro. Visitation will be Thursday after 9 a.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. at Kales Funeral Home in Truro.

He was born May 31, 1920 in Truro to Frank E. and Edith Esther (Spurgin) Neidt. He married Esther Barnes on Oct. 29, 1939 in Truro. He was a farmer and carpenter. He was a substitute mail carrier for 25 years and a rural mail carrier in the Truro St. Charles area since 1983. He retired in 1990. He was a lifetime resident of the Truro area and a member of the United Methodist Church of Truro.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.

Surviving relatives include his wife; two daughters, Karen Hansen and husband Bob of Council Bluffs, and Kathy Weidner and husband Scott of Council Bluffs; one brother, LaVerne Neidt of Truro; two sisters, Cleona Knapp of Des Moines and Mary Evelyn Brant and husband John of Truro; mother-in-law, Daisy Barnes of Truro; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Joe William Neidt, the son of Frank and Edith (Spurgin) Neidt, was born at home in Madison County, Iowa, on May 31, 1920. He died at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, on March 27, 1994, having attained the age of 73 years, 9 months, 27 days.

He attended the Ebenezer country school in Walnut Township and graduated from Truro High School in 1926 at the age of 15 years. Following graduation he farmed many years in the Truro area. He also was a carpenter, home builder and prior to retirement in 1990, he was a rural mail carrier in the Truro and St. Charles area.

On October 29, 1939, he married Esther Barnes. They were married 54 years, and were the parents of two daughters, Karen and Kathy.

Joe was a member of the Truro United Methodist Church, where he had served as a Trustee. Joe loved music, fishing, bowling, playing cards, especially Cribbage, and to pitch horseshoes. One of the greatest joys in his life were his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant sister, Pauline.

Survivors include his wife, Esther of Truro, daughters and sons-in-law Karen and Bob Hansen, Kathy and Scott Weidner of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren Chris and Linda Hansen of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Jodi Hansen, Jason Weidner and Natalie Weidner of Council Bluffs, Iowa and two great-grandchildren, Steven and Tasha of Elkhorn, Nebraska; mother-in-law, Daisy Barnes of Truro, Iowa; sisters, Cleona Knapp of Des Moines, Iowa and Mary Evelyn (Mrs. John) Brant of Truro, Iowa; and one brother LaVerne Neidt of Truro, Iowa; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
