G. Lloyd Montross, a merchant and prominent citizen of Winterset since 1922, died at his home here Friday, Sept. 2, (1955), after an extended illness. Death resulted from leukemia. He was 69 years of age.

Mr. Montross was a pharmacist and had operated the Montross pharmacy in Winterset, either alone or in partnership, since 1922. He was active in the First Presbyterian church here, serving as trustee and deacon. He was a Mason and a past master of the lodge at his home town in Sloan. He was a charter member of the Winerset Rotary club, and one of the organizers of the Winterset Chamber of Commerce.

Over a long period of years he was active in Winterset civic and community projects.

Mr. Montross was born May 2, 1886, at Sloan, a son of George D. and Ida Corr Montross. His father was a pioneer pharmacist at Sloan.

He graduated from high school in Sloan and attended Grinnell college at Grinnell, receiving his degree in 1908. After a time with the Richardson Drug company in Omaha, he engaged in the drug business with his father for six years. For a short time after the sale of that store, he was with the Edison phonograph company.

In 1922 he came to Winterset, where he purchased the Niblo and Herring drug store. As a registered pharmacist, he managed the store alone until 1940, when his son, George, entered partnership with him. In 1952, a third partner, Earl Brown of Afton, entered the firm.

Mr. Montross was married on June 19, 1914, to Xenia E. Buchner, at Maquoketa. They were parents of one son, George.
