Mrs. C. R. Walden

Emma May DeLong Walden, who died at her home in Mt. Zion, March 6, 1929, was born in Winterset, October 17, 1859, being 69 years 4 months and 18 days of age at the time of her death. She was the younger daughter of Joseph and Rebecca Hollingsworth DeLong, who were early settlers from Illinois in Madison county. At her parents home near Winterset, on March 3, 1880, she was united in marriage to Charles Raymond Walden. Mr. and Mrs. Walden made their home near Winterset until sixteen years ago, when they went to Mt. Zion, having purchased the farm known as the Martin place, southeast of town. Nine years ago they removed to their present home in Mt. Zion.

Their home was blessed with four children: Lloyd F. of San Jose, California; Winifred, at home; Mrs. Alice Rose of Burbank, California, and Mrs. Mildred Byers of San Antonio, Texas. There are also nine grandchildren, six boys and three girls. On account of their distant residence, none except Miss Winifred were able to be at home during her last illness.

Mrs. Walden had but one sister, Mrs. Mary Purcell of Ord, Nebraska, who together with her daughter, Mrs. Marks, also of Ord, was with her for some time preceding her death.

Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion church, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of Rev. H. C. Irvine of Birmingham. Burial was made in the Purdom cemetery, at Keosauqua.
