KENNETH RITTER Services This Wednesday

Kenneth E. Ritter, prominent Winterset community leader, died Sunday evening at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

He had been rushed to Des Moines by Life-Flight hellicopter earlier in the day. Death was attributed to heart failure.He was 64 years of age

Memorial services for Mr. Ritter were held at 11 a.m. this Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1981, from the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. The body was cremated for interment at Winterset Cemetery.

A son of Vernon and Ada White Ritter, he was born in Winterset on June 5, 1916. He attended local schools, graduating from Winterset high school in 1934. Ritter received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Simpson College in 1938. Since that time he has been associated with Ritter Insurance here.

On May 21, 1942, he was married to Eleanor Holman at My. Ayr, Iowa.

During World War II, he was a Navy Lieutenant J. G., serving as a commander of a mine sweeper in the South Pacific.

Returning to Winterset, Ritter became a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Masonic Lodge. He was also a member and past president of the Lions Club.

He served on the Winterse Community School board for a total of 11 years, including one term as president. He was also a member of the Defense Orientation Conference Association.

He was an active member of the local United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Leon (Barb) Hendricks of Winterset and Mrs. Kay Ellen Hertz of Pamona, Calif., a son, Marvin Ritter of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Loren.

Officiating at the Memorial service this Wednesday morning was the Rev. Byron Ayers, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Winterset.
