C. FARRIS BREEDING, Winterset

Services for C. Farris Breeding, 80, Winterset, who died Nov. 12 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held at the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 1988, with the Rev. Clarence Lautt and the Rev. Bob Epperson officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery. Military graveside rites were also performed by the American Legion post 184.

Born in Madison County on June 19, 1908, he was the son of Charles and Albia Cox Breeding. He operated the Breeding Hardware Store in Winterset for many years, was a lifetime resident and a member of the Winterset Volunteer Fire Department from 1938 to 1982, serving as chief for 21 years.

Mr. Breeding was married to Lois Newton at Bethany, Mo., on Aug 2, 1931. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the VFW, the American Legion post here and the Legion Color Guard.

He had worked at the family hardware store since he was 13 years old and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He also served as a Little League umpire in the community for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; son, Wayne and wife Sharon, Larry and wife Wilma, and Rick and wife Debbie, all of Winterset; a brother, James of Winterset; sisters, Veva Young of Winterset, Evelyn Wight of Rock Island, Ill., and Vanna Olsen of Ventura, Calif; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
