CHARLES BREEDING Dies at 79 Years
Was in Hardware Business in Winterset for 44 Years

Charles Breeding,a Winterset hardware merchant for 44 years and a former political and civic leader in this community, died last Thursday, Sept. 7, 1961, at Memorial hospital. He was 79 years of age, and had been in failing health for several years.

Mr. Breeding was a life long resident of Madison County. He was born on a farm in Scott township on July 28, 1882, a son of James W. and Fanny O'Dell Breeding. His early life was spent on the farm but most of his adult life in Winterset.

He was a member of the Winterset fire department for 35 years, serving as its chief for 10 years. He servied six years as a member of the county board of supervisors. He had been a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge for 40 years.

Mr. Breeding was a member of the Winterset Methodist Church.

He was married here in 1906 to Albia Cox who survives him. He also leaves two sons, Charles Farris and James Breeding, both of Winterset and three daughters, Mrs. Veva Young of Winterset, Mrs. Evelyn Wight of Rock Island, Ill. and Mrs. Vanna Olsen of Ventura, Calif; in addition to 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Robert A. Breeding of Ft. Madison, and two sisters, Mrs. Rella Schoenenberger and Mrs. Nell McClure, both of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Sunday from Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist Church. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
