Charles Johnson Dies at Hawkeye

Charles E. Johnson, formerly of Madison County, died Tuesday, December 12 at West Union Hospital in Hawkeye, Iowa where he had lived in recent years. He was 89 years of age.

Mr. Johnson was born in Madison County, December 17, 1882, a son of Thomas and Harriett Cleveland Johnson. He lived here until 1940, when he moved to Adel. After the death of his wife he moved to Hawkeye to make his home with a daughter, Mrs. Mae Wettering.

In 1920 he was married to Georgia Parker. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Wettering of Hawkeye and Mrs. Doris Minson of Minnesota, 24 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. Two sons, two daughters, three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held here Saturday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Newton Coughenour, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Winterset. Burial was made in North McDonald Cemetery.
