OLIVER O. BECHTEL

Oliver Bechtel was born at Princeton, Missouri, February 26, 1900. He passed away at Des Moines General hospital Sunday, March 5, at 8:20 p.m. Oliver came to Earlham by covered wagon when he was two years old. His father and mother, Elmer and Annabell Bechtel, had come from Pennsylvania just prior to Oliver's birth. He was their eldest child. He had one brother, Virgil, and two sisters, Pearl and Paula.

He married Virginia Merical May 26, 1925. They have three children, Marlin O. of Sacramento, California, Larry of Urbandale, and Donna Wright of Adel. Virginia and Beck (as he was known to many) lived in the Adel-Earlham area all their married lives except for short sojourns to Illinois, California, and Mt. Ayr. Oliver was a member of the Earlham Friends church and there, he and Virginia celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Oliver enjoyed his family and was a loving father and grandfather as well as a most loving husband. He could play the piano by ear and sang in church choirs as a young man.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Virgil. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Virginia, three children, Marlin, Larry and Donna, eight grandchildren, and his sisters, Pearl Hayes of Dallas Center and Paula Badgerow of Lamoni, and a host of people who loved him very much.
