January 1957Leo M. Reinert, oldest son of George H. and Katie Moore Reinert,was born July 19, 1894, at Osceola, Nebraska, and departed this life on January 9, 1957 at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 62 years and five months.
He lived at Osceola, Nebraska for about a year and a half when his parents moved too Valentine, Nebr.
When he was about five years old his mother died and he and his brother, George, then made their home with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Moore in the Worthington neighborhood, Madison Co. Here he grew to manhood. He attended Washington rural school and also became a member of the Worthington Methodist church, which membership he retained until his death. He always believed in high Christian principals and practiced them in his daily life.
After his schooling he was engaged in farming until World War I when he spent about a year in the army, nine months of which was overseas duty. After his return from the service he worked for a short time in a garage at Van Meter.
On January 25, 1923, he was united in marriage to Hazel M. Mullins. To this union one son, Carroll, was born.
In 1926 he started in the service station business in Earlham and continued at the same location for 31 years. He was working at his station Tuesday, January 8th when he became ill.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was one of the charter members of the Earlham American Legion Post no. 158.
He is survived by his wife,Hazel; his son, Carroll and wife, Betty, two grandaughters, Patricia and Ellen, of Wichita, Kansas; one brother, George of Earlham; and three half-sisters, Mae Howell and Leona Ferguson of Ainsworth, Nebraska, and Jennie Jamison of Merriman, Nebr.
His father, George H. Reinert preceded him in death by just a few hours at Stuart, Nebraska.
After his many long years in business activities in Earlham, he will be greatly missed by his associates and friends. While never enjoying the best of health he always had a friendly smile and cheerful greeting for everyone he met.

Wednesday, January 23, 1957LEO M. REINERT - Earlham Veteran Stricken Fatally
Leo M. Reinert, a service station operator in Earlham for 34 years, was fatally stricken with a heart attack Tuesday, Jan. 8, 1957, while at work. His death occurred the next day, Jan. 9, at a Des Moines hospital.
Mr. Reinert was 62 years of age. He was a native of Nebraska, where he was born at Osceola, Nebr. on July 19, 1894. At the age of one year the family moved to Valentine, Nebr. When he was 5 years of age his mother died and he and his brother, George, came to Madison county to make their home with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Moore, of the Worthington community.
He was a veteran of World War I. He was married Jan. 25, 1923, to Hazel M. Mullins. He started in the service station business in Earlham in 1926 and remained with that work continuously until his death.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge, and a charter member of American Legion post No. 158 of Earlham.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Carroll Reinert, and two granddaughters of Wichita, Kan.; the brother, George, of Earlham; and three half sisters, Mae Howell and Leona Ferguson of Ainsworth, Nebr., and Jennie Jamison of Merriman, Nebr.

Funeral services were held Jan. 12 from the Earlham Methdist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Anthony Blankers, and the Rev. Royal Woodley, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.

Services were held Saturday, January 12 at 2:00 p.m. at the Earlham Methodist church for Leo M. Reinert who suffered a severe heart attack Tuesday afternoon, January 8. He was taken to the Methodist hospital in Des Moines where he passed away late Wednesday night. His father, who lived in Nebraska, preceded him in death by just a few hours the same day.
Services were conducted by Rev. Anthony Blankers, pastor of the Methodist church and Royal Woodley, pastor of the Church of Christ. Mervyn McLennan, accompanied by Mrs. McLennan was soloist.
Casket bearers were Rex Fuller, Earl Schalkle, Fred Petersen, Sheldon Strong, Wayne Swallow and L. O. Pattern. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
Leo had completed 31 years of business activity in Earlham, in the same location. Starting in the service station business for himself in 1926 he saw the transition of the automobile from the Model T to the latest stream lined models of today. When he observed his 30th anniversary last year he recalled many interesting experiences.
Along with his station activities he served as substitute mail carrier, sold ice and more recently did considerable clock repairing.
Leo always had a cheerful greeting or a witty remark. He will be greatly missed by his business associates and friends.
