Frederick James Ford, 77, of West Des Moines died April 23, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held today (Wed. April 27) at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastor Bobb Barrick officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Fred Ford was born June 15, 1927, in Winterset to Fred James and Lenore (Beem) Ford. He was a 1945 graduate of Winterset High School. On Sept. 15, 1946, he married Shirley V. Garland in Winterset. They resided in Winterset until moving to West Des Moines in 1968. Fred had been an insurance adjuster with Continental Western Insurance Company in Des Moines. He also owned and operated an auto body repair shop in Winterset. A world War II veteran of the United States Navy, he was a charter member of the Winterset V.F.W.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ann Ford.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of West Des Moines; one son, Craig Ford of Bellevvue, Neb.; one daughter, Jeanne Ford of Des Moines; two brothers, Henry Ford of Hamilton, Mo., and Bob Ford of Nampa, Idaho; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
