August 6, 2003Loren Alan Grout, 78, of Winterset died July 29, 2003, at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 2, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating. Burial was at Clark Cemetery, Monroe Township, Madison County, with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142, both of Winterset.
Loren Grout was born April 18, 1925, in Madison County to Charles and Mary (Seiler) Grout. On Dec. 24, 1947, he married Lois Handley in Winterset. Loren, a lifetime resident of Madison and Union counties, had been a farmer and mechanic. He had worked for John Deere Implement in Winterset and the Madison County Secondary Roads Department. He also owned a mechanic shop in Lorimor for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and American Legion, both of Winterset, and Lorimor Lions Club. He also had been the mayor and a volunteer fireman for the town of Lorimor. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Claude Grout.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Winterset; two daughters, Sharon Berdine of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gwynn Zeisler of San Diego, Calif.; a son, Gary Grout of Winterset; three sisters, Doris Schirm of Murray, Utah, Ruby Estell of Denver, Colo., and Marjorie Mount of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
