Nelson E. Crow, 77, of Clarinda died Feb. 5, 1999, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs where he had been a patient for three weeks.

A celebration of life service was held Monday, Feb. 8, at the United Methodist Church in Clarinda with the Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery near Macksburg with the Rev. Waunita McConnell officiating.

Nelson Crow was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Madison County to Wayne and Opal (Phillips) Crow. He married Virginia Cutshall on Aug. 25, 1946. He received a bachelor of music degree from Simpson College in Indianola and his master's degree from Drake University in Des Moines. Nelson was the director of music at IWCC, directed Clarinda High School choral activities for over 10 years and founded the Nodaway Valley Symphony Orchestra. Following retirement, he also founded the Plainsmen Men's Chorus.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Brenda McConahay of Des Moines; one brother, Jim Crow of Edlestein, Ill.; one sister, Norma Jean Hildebrand of Pleasant Hill; former son-in-law, Richard McConahay of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Walker-Merrick Funeral Home of Clarinda.

Nelson E. Crow, 77, of Clarinda, IA., died Friday morning, February 5, 1999, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Council Bluffs, IA., where he had been a patient for three weeks. Nelson was born in Madison County, IA., February 1, 1922, to Wayne and Opal Phillips Crow. On August 25, 1946, he married Virginia Cutshall, who survives.

He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Simpson College and his masters degree for Drake University. He was the director of music at IWCC and directed Clarinda High School choral activities for over ten years. He founded the Nodaway Valley Symphony Orchestra. After retirement he founded the Plainsmen Men’s Chorus.

Survivors include his wife Virginia of the home, daughter Brenda McConahay of Des Moines, one grandson Rick McConahay of Iowa City, one grand daughter Claire McConahay of Chicago, IL. brother Jim Crow of Edelstein, IL., and sister Norma Jean Hildebrand of Pleasanthill, IA. and former son-in-law Richard McConahay of Oklahoma City, OK. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Celebration of Life services were held 7:00pm, Monday, February 8, 1999, at the United Methodist Church, Clarinda, IA. with Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery at Macksburg, IA. with Rev. Wauneita McConnell, 11:00am, Tuesday, February 9, 1999. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church, Clarinda, IA. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
