Obituary

Samuel Beals was born July 6, 1828, in Washington County, Tennesee, and died June 24, 1905, at his home near Earlham, aged 76 years, 11 months and 18 days. He was married to Hannah Beals on September 2, 1852. to them was born a daughter who is still living, Eveline Hillerman, of Bloomington, Ind. In 1854 he moved to Keokuk County, Iowa, where he remained one year, during which he lost his companion by death.

In 1856 he removed to Jasper County. He was again married on July 14, 1856, to Amy Newby. To this union was born seven children, four of whom are living; Thomas and Seth Beals and Ruth Newby of Earlham and Lucinda Reece of Elmore, Minn. On November 9, 1889 death claimed his second companion. In the spring of 1893 he moved to a farm near Bear Creek church where he spent the remainder of his life with the exception of four years spent in Earlham.

On June 14, 1893, he was married to Hannah Jones of Richland, Ia., who until his death has been a faithful and loving companion. Only two sisters remain of his father's family, Rachel Cramley of Pleasant Plain, Ia., and Cynthia Stanley of North Branch, Kansas, both of whom were present.
