RUTH J. BEALS

Ruth J. Beals, daugher of William S. and Nancy Newby Parker, was born August 7, 1851 in Marion County, Indiana, and passed away at her home in Earlham, Iowa, June 3, 1948 at the age of 86 years, nine months and 26 days.

She grew to womanhood in Indiana, but came to Jasper County, Iowa, in 1881 where she was united in marriage with Thomas J. Beals February 25, 1882. To this union were born six children-a son, who died in early infancy, William S. Rosa B., Amy E., Jennie N., and Minnie Pearl.

In 1892 she, with her husband and family, moved to Jewell County, Kansas, where they lived for one year, when they returned to Iowa, settling in the Bear Creek neighborhood. Later in 1901 they moved to Earlham, where she remained till the time of her death.

Mrs. Beals loved her home. Her life centered in her family. Her main thought was given to their welfare. She was very devoted and loyal to her friends, especially enjoying their visits at her bedside.

She was birthright member of Friends and in childhood accepted Christ as her Savior. She was always interested in the church, though her health did not permit her to participate in its activites. She was a member of the Home Department of the Sunday School, until her eyesight failed her she could not keep up the work. One of her greatest joys was listening to the religious programs over the radio.

Poor health was her portion for most of her life, finally becoming a semi-invalid. She was not given to complaining of her lot, but was always sympathetic with those who were unforunate. In the early dawn of June 3 the gates of Life Eternal opened and the soul was released from its imprisonment.

The husband and five of her children preceded her in death. One son, William S. of Earlham, two grandchildren, and other relatives and friends remain to mourn her passing.
