Joseph Edward McLarnand was born near Fon Du Lac, Wis., September 23, 1855, and died at his late home in Winterset, December 27, 1928, being then past 73 years of age. When a boy of nine, his parents brought him to Minnesota, and when of age he came to Iowa.
On January 30, 1882, he married Miss Candace Rhodes, in Union township, and spent all the rest of his days in Madison county. God blest their home with four children, Mrs. Beulah Ethel Piatt of Mount Pleasant; Samuel E. McLarnand, Mrs. Sylvia May Griswold and Mrs. Leila Leota Fuson. There are twelve grandchildren who will have happy memories of grandfather, and a brother and two sisters outlive him: Frank McLarnand of Macksburg; Mrs. Charlotte Griffen of Hydro, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ida Jenkins of Detroit, Michigan.
About twenty years ago Mr. McLarnand confessed himself a servant of Jesus Christ and became a faithful and humble member of the Church of Christ. He died in faith. He was held in high esteem by his faithful and loving family and friends. We live on in the trust that the memory of our redeemed will cause just to be blest.
Funeral services were conducted from the Ramsey-Richards home Sunday, December 30th, by the Rev. W. C. Porter. Interment was in the Rock City cemetery.
