September 1955WILLIAM S. BEALS
William S. Beals, son of Thomas and Ruth Parker Beals, was born near Newton, Iowa, August 3, 1884. When a young boy he moved with his parents to the Bear Creek neighborhood and later to Earlham, where his father engaged in the mercantile business. He graduated from Earlham Academy in 1904.
In 1906 he was married to Bessie Jones. To this union two children were born, Wilmer T. and Pearl Viola of Chetek, Wisconsin, both of whom survive.
Much of his life he was engaged in farming, but for several years he was the mail messenger for the C. R. I. & P. railroad at Earlham, Iowa. He retired because of ill health.
Will Beals was of a quiet disposition willing to help a neighbor or friend at any time.
He was a birthright member of Friends, and at the time of his death was a member of the Earlham Friends Meeting. He passed away at the Memorial hospital in Winterset, Friday, September 30, 1955.
The funeral service was held at the Earlham Friends Church on Sunday afternoon, October 2, at 2:30 o'clock with the pastor, L. Willard Reynods in charge. Burial was in the Bear Creek Cemetery.
