Earlham Echo - April 1958

Albert E. Golightly was stricken with a heart attack at his home in Earlham, April 22, 1958 and died on the way to the hospital. His death came suddenly and was a shock to the entire community.

Albert was born in Madison county, Jackson township, December 25, 1905, the son of Sanford and Minnie Golightly. He was married to Josephine Shaw on June 7, 1930 and he spent most of his life farming until moving to Earlham in 1954.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine, a son, Gene of Earlham, two daughters, Sharon living at home and Mrs. Ruby Chase of Des Moines. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Donna, a son-in-law, John, two grandchildren, Patricia and Michael Golightly; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Meyers of Van Meter, and Mrs. Erma Stanley of Phoenix, Arizona; two brothers, John and Lloyd of Van Meter; many nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, one sister and one brother.

He was a faithful member of the Odd Fellow Lodge No. 546 of Earlham.

As a boy he attended the Fairview church and later attended the Methodist church in Earlham.

A true and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend has left our midst, but memory of him will live on with us.

Funeral services were held at the Earlham Methodist church, Friday, April 25, 1958 at 2:00 p.m.

Rev. Robert O. Edwards was in charge with graveside service by the Odd Fellows. Mrs. Phillip Duff was organist.

Casket bearers were: B.G. Harris, Russel Hoskins, John Henkle, Clyde Brittain, Dale Mills and Merlyn Frey.

Interment was in the Earlham Cemetery.

ALBERT GOLIGHTLY BURIED AT EARLHAM

Funeral services were held April 25 from the Earlham Methodist church for Albert Golightly, whose death occurred April 22 as a result of a heart attack. He suffered the attack at his home in Earlham and died enroute to the hospital. He was 52 years of age.

Mr. Golightly was born in Jackson township on Dec. 25, 1905, a son of Sanford and Minnie Golightly. His life was spent in farming until he moved to Earlham in 1954.

Surviving are his wife, the former, Josephine Shaw, to whom he was married in 1930; a son, Gene golightly of Earlham; two daughters, Sharon Golightly and Mrs. Ruby Chase, both of Des Moines; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Meyer of Van Meter and Mrs. Erma Stanley of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two brothers, John and Lloyd Golightly of Van Meter.

The Rev. Robert O. Edwards conducted the services. Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.
