MARGARET W. GUYE, VAN METER

Services for Margaret W. Guye, 86, who died May 9 at her rural Van Meter home, were held Saturday, May 12 at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Nicholson officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Mrs. Guye was born on Nov. 1, 1897 on a farm in Union Township. The daughter of John and Karoline Withrow (Witherow). Both of her parents died at an early age. Mrs. Guye and her brother, John Keplar Witherow, then made their home with the maternal grandparents, Stanilaus and Theresa Baur.

Mrs. Guye attended four years of high school at St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines and graduated from Drake University with a bachelor of arts degree. She was a member of Delta Phi Delta, Lambda Chapter, a national organization of arts at the university. Following graduation from Drake, she became office assistant to the representatives of the Canadian government.

On Aug. 5, 1933, she married Clyde V. Guye in Des Moines and the couple moved to the Guye farm in Jefferson Township where she lived for almost 51 years.

She was a member of the Van Meter United Methodist Church and the Van Meter Women's Club. In addition, Mrs. Guye was a member of the Drake University 50-year Club, the Drake Alumnae, a life member of the Des Moines Womem's Club, a member of the YMCA, and a 50-year member of the Winterset chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 180. She belonged to the World War I Auxiliary and for several years she served on the Madison County 4-H Girls Committee. She was a life member of the Madison County Historical Society, served on the board of directors of the society, and donated the land for the county historical building.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Marguerite Witherow. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and her brother.
