OBITUARY

Lecy Thomas Barnett was born in Wayne County, Ind. August 12, 1854. Her parents were Charles and Nancy Moorman Thomas, who reared a family of thirteen children, Lecy being the youngest and last survivor of the group. Her mother died when she was fourteen years old. Her father Charles Thomas, moved his family to Earlham, Iowa, when Lecy was 17 years of age. On Jan. 2, 1875 she was married at the age of 21 to Joel Barnett. In 1878 they purchased a farm near Earlham, which was their home until 1910, when they removed to Whittier, Calif., which has been their home ever since.

Jan. 2, 1923, they quietly celebrated the 58th anniversay of their marriage at their home, 136 North Painter Avenue.

Joel and Lecy Barnett were the parents of two sons, Garrold Olda of Yucipa, Calif., and Ivey Wallens of Whittier. These sons with their families were constant attendants at the mother's bedside during her last illness which continued a little more than a week.

Lecy Barnett was a birthright member of the Friends Church and was an interested, consistent member of it all her life.

She is survived by her husband, Joel Barnett, her two sons and six grandchildren.

The funeral was held in the Funeral Home in Whittier conducted by the Rev. W. O. Trueblood, the interment was in Rose Memorial Cemetery, Whittier, California.

Mrs. Joel Barnett, well known former Earlham woman, passed away Saturday at her home in Whittier, California, according to messages received by relatives here. She was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Wm. Jackson and Mrs. E. S. Compton and an aunt of Mrs. C. E. Wilson, Lindsey and Ernest Thomas. Funeral services for the deceased were held Monday afternoon at Whittier.
