Harold (Swede) Barnett, 44, of 490 E Southmor Road, Morris, Illinois, died Sunday morning of a lingering illness.
The son of Willard C. Barnett and Mabel Hutzell Barnett, he was born on October 5, 1934, in Adel, Iowa. He attended Iowa schools and graduated from Earlham high school in 1952. On November 24, 1956, he married Janeann Jirak in Des Moines. After serving the Armed Forces in the U. S. Army overseas in Germany, he was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission for five years in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In 1964, he moved his family to Morris and was employed as an over-the-road truck driver for Tri-State Motor Transit until 1971, when he entered the employment of Northern Petrochemical Co. In 1978, he won first place in the Illinois Trucking Association's Rodeo in the tank truck division. He was a member of Bear Creek Friends Church; the Illinois Trucking Association and Foresters.
Preceding him in death were a son in infancy and a brother Marvin.
He is survived by his parents of Earlham; his wife; two sons and a daughter, Rick of Verona and Steve and Dawn at home; two brothers, Bob of Stuart, Iowa, and Darwin of Earlham, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Mack (Sharon) Duffey of Eldridge, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Edward Poff and The Rev. Kenneth Santee officiating.
Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
