Services were held Thursday, Jan. 15, at Collins Funeral Home for Paul D. Shaw, who died at the age of 72.

Mr. Shaw's death occurred Jan. 12 at his home in Perry, Iowa.

Born on March 6, 1908, he was the son of Samuel Shaw and Jane Ovans. Mr. Shaw spent most of his life in the Winterset area, making his living as a farmer.

In 1931 he married Edith Holmes in Winterset. In 1973 they moved away from Winterset to Boone and in 1978 moved again - this time to Perry.

Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George. He is survived by his wife Edith, daughter Shirley Ann Thompson of Perry, and a sister, Josephine Golightly of Earlham.

Rev. Leon Lebuda officiated at the services, and burial was in Winterset Cemetery.

Obituary

Paul D. Shaw, born March 6, 1908, at Albia, Iowa, and died at his home in Perry, Iowa, January 12, 1981, following a long illness. He was the son of Samuel and Jane Ovans Shaw.

Paul was united in marriage March 9, 1931 to Edith M. Holmes in Winterset, Iowa.

Paul spent most of his life as a farmer in Madison County and served as an A.S.C. corn sealer for 19 years retiring in 1969. The couple moved to Boone, Iowa in 1973 and to Perry, Iowa in 1978. He was a member of the Pitzer United Presbyterian Church.

Paul is survived by his wife, Edith; one daughter, Shirley Ann (Mrs. Hubert Thompson) of Perry; two grandchildren, Teresa and Brad Thompson; a sister, Josephine Golightly of Earlham and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Paul leaves a host of friends; never met a stranger during his lifetime, had a great love of life and enjoyed talking to people, and all children were his special friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset on January 15, 1981, with Rev. Leon Lebuda officiating.

Music was provided by Meredith Easter, organist.

Interment was in the Winterset Cemetery.
