Fern Jessie Shaw was born the daughter of Charles and Winnie (Longmire) Merical on May 22, 1910 and died of heart failure at the U.S.A. Health Care Facility in Earlham, Iowa on December 26, 1999.

Fern J. Merical was married to George E. Shaw in 1927. To this union was born a son, Donald D. Shaw.

In 1977, Fern retired after 44 years with the Earlham Community School in the food service department, of which she was the manager for over 40 years.

Fern is survived by a son Donald and wife Jan of Des Moines, Iowa; and a grandson Todd, his wife Elizabeth, and great-granddaughter Sarah, who reside in Charlotte, North Carolina. Fern also leaves many nieces and nephews to celebrate her life.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, four sisters, and two brothers.
