Wilbur Gene Golightly, 69, died of cancer Aug. 31, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 5) at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset with the Rev. Ernie Baiotto officiating. Burial of the cremains was at Winterset Cemetery.

Wilbur Golightly was born Jan. 17, 1932, in Madison County (Madison Township) to Albert E. and Josephine E. (Shaw) Golightly. He married Donna C. Patten on Jan. 18, 1952. A life-long area resident, Wilbur was a retired farmer and also had worked for Harris & Sons for many years. He most recently had been a truck driver for Super Valu for 17 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Earlham Mason Lodge 568, Des Moines Consistory, ZaGaZig Shrine, Earlham American Legion Post 158 and the Madison County Genealogical Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Hochstetler (husband Clair) of Dexter; two sons, Michael Golightly (wife Connie) of Earlham and Anthony Golightly (wife Teresa) of Winterset; two sisters, Ruby Brandow (husband Jerry) of Ankeny and Sharon Steenrod (husband Robert) of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to a fund in Wilbur's name.
