Samuel Shaw, son of Evan and Lucinda Shaw was born February 12, 1884 in Monroe county, Iowa. After a severe heart attack, he passed away December 11, 1958 at his home in Earlham at the age of 74 years, nine months and 29 days.

He was united in marriage to Janie I. Ovans on August 29, 1903.

He spent most of his life farming. Due to failing health, he and his wife moved to Earlham in 1952.

When a child he united with the Christian church.

His mother, father, five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his passing two sons: Paul of Dexter, George of Earlham and a daughter, Josephine Golightly of Earlham, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A true and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend has left our midst but his memories will linger with us.

Relatives here from a distance to attend services for Samuel Shaw on December 13 were: Mr. and Mrs. John Chase, Shirley Shaw of Des Moines; Geo. Kline of Knoxville; Harley Kline, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Jordon, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mahan, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Powers and Mrs. Mabel McManus all of Albia; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Chidester of Oskaloosa; John Shaw of Grinnell; Olen Shaw of Washington, D.C. and friends from Van Meter, Winterset, Dexter and Adel.

Funeral services were held at the Leeper Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 1:00. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.

SAM SHAW DIED AGED 74 YEARS

Death of Well Known Farmer Occurred Dec. 11 at Earlham

Funeral services were held from the Leeper funeral home in Earlham Dec. 13 for Sam Shaw, whose death occurred Dec. 11 at his home in Earlham. Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.

Mr. Shaw was 74 years old at his death, which resulted from a heart attack. A native of Monroe county where he was born Feb. 12, 1884, he was the son of Evans and Lucinda Shaw. He spent most of his life in farming, but because of failing health, had lived in Earlham since 1952

He was married on Aug. 29, 1903 to Janie I. Evans, who survives him. He also leaves two sons, Paul Shaw of Dexter and George Shaw of Earlham; a daughter, Mrs. Josephine Golightly of Earlham; five grandchildren; and two great grand children.
