ORAL V. AFFLACK

Oral V afflack, oldest son of Raymond and Mabel Fariholm Afflack, was born in Massena, Iowa, September 29, 1903, and died in Mercy Hospital in Des Moines on August 12, 1962, at the age of 58 years. His boyhood was spent near Earlham, where he attended the Earlham schools, graduating in 1922 with the first class in the new school building. He graduated from the former Des Moines University College of Pharmacy. He gained his practical experience in the E. L. Scar Drug Store in Earlham. Following his graduation from college, he spent several months in Europe.

He was married in 1928 to Evelyn Barkley of Chicago, where he was manager of a Walgreen Drug Store. They moved to Des Moines in 1930 and he became a representative of Parke Davis Drug Company. His service in this capacity for 32 years is evidence of his integrity, and his genial disposition made for him a host of loyal friends. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, Iowa Drug Travelers, Acanthus Masonic Lodge, the Polk County and Iowa Pharmaceutical Associations and the Elks club.

Services were held on Tuesday, August 14, at 3:00 p.m. by the Reverend Winthrop Mager at Dunn's Funeral Home with interment in Glendale Cemetery.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Evelyn; one son, Donald K. of Van Nuys, California; twin daughters, Jeri Ray and Judi Gay of Des Moines; his mother, Mabel Afflack of Earlham; a brother, Dr. Don H. Afflack of Parkersburg, West Virginia; one grandson, Terrance Oral; and two granddaughters, Cari Lyn and Dawn. One daughter, Marilyn, died in 1945 at the age of 12.

We cannot say, and we will not say
That he is dead, he is just away.
With his cheery smile and a wave of the hand
He has wandered into an unknown land
and left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be, since he lingers there.
