L.O. Patten, the son of J. Ernest and Ella Gilbraith Patten, was born December 10, 1900 in Brooklyn, Iowa. He passed away May 20, 1982 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset where he had been a patient for several weeks.

Pat was raised in the Brooklyn Community and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1921.

On February 2, 1921 Pat was united in marriage to Gladys Newton in Des Moines, Iowa. One daughter, Donna, blessed their marriage. Gladys passed away in 1976.

In 1927 Pat and Gladys moved to Earlham and in 1928 began operating a produce business which they operated until their retirement in 1968.

Pat was a member of the Earlham Church of Christ, the Madison Lodge #568 of Earlham, Des Moines Consistory, ZaGaZig Shrine of Des Moines and the Earlham Chapter of the O.E.S. He was Past Grand Lodge Officer of Iowa and a 50 year Mason.

Survivors include his loving daughter, Donna Golightly and her husband, Gene of rural Dexter; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Julia Blenderman of Mitchell, South Dakota, one brother, Floyd Patten of Perry, Iowa; one step sister and two step brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Paul.

Services were held at the Earlham Church of Christ, May 22, 1982 with Pastor Earl Menning and Pastor L. Neal Hanley officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Jean Waugh, organist. Casket bearers were Dean Burkett, Harold Frey, L. Neal Hanley, Orie Jones, James Reinert, Randall Yontz. Masonic graveside services were conducted by Madison Lodge No. 568 A.F.&A.M. Earlham, Iowa at the Earlham Cemetery.
