OBITUARY OF DELORA BERNEICE HADLEY

Delora Berneice Hadley, daughter of Leonard and Dell McKibben Cook was born October 20, 1902 at Adel, Iowa. She passed away September 13, 1982 at Winterset Care Center North.

Berneice graduated from the Earlham Academy in 1920 and attended University of Iowa for one year. She taught school at Bear Creek #4 for two years.

On June 20, 1923 she was united in marriage to Willard Hadley. They were parents of three children, and spent 59 years in the Bear Creek and Earlham Community.

Many young people took piano lessons from Berneice. She accompanied many singing groups, beginning when she was a school girl, in both school and church activities. She continued to do so including regular church service on Sunday, August 22, 1976, the day of her initial stroke.

Berneice taught Sunday school class and was a very active member in the Cosmopolitan Club, a Past President of American Legion Auxiliary and Past Matron of Earlham Chapter #294 O.E.S.

For the past six years she has been cared for at Earlham Care Center and Winterset Care Center North.

Survivors include her husband Willard; three children, Marjorie Smith of Earlham, Howard of Urbandale, and Leonard of Newton; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one brother, Otha Cook, of Earlham.

Services were conducted at the Bear Creek Friends Church, Thursday, September 16, 1982 with the Rev. Robert Voorhees officiating. Music was provided by Bernita Patience, organist and soloist. Pallbearers were Philip Hadley, Edwin H. Smith, Donald Jones, Darwin Snook, Marion Cook, Marvin Cook. Graveside services by Earlham Chapter #294 O.E.S. with interment at Bear Creek Cemetery, Earlham, Iowa.
