MILLARD OTTO McCLEARY

Millard Otto McCleary, son of John O. and Mary McCleary was born on a farm in Madison County near Winterset, September 29, 1890 and departed this life at the Wilden Hospital in Des Moines on November 2nd, at the age of 65 years, one month and two days. His wife, Esther, preceded him in death only three months ago on July 26, 1955.

He was one of six children. His father, mother, two brothers and a sister also preceded him in death.

He spent his early boyhood on a farm near Van Meter and in 1908 moved to the Earlham vicinity.

On February 16, 1916, he was married to Esther McKibben of Earlham. They were the parents of three children; Herbert Earl, who died in infancy; Lenore, now Mrs. Harold Mowell of Stuart; and LaVere of near Dexter. Their married life was spent farming in the Earlham vicinity with the exception of two years in Fontanelle in 1935-1937, then retiring in 1949 due to ill health.

He was one of the builders of the present Penn Center Church, as well as being a faithful member and serving on the church board for many years. He was a devoted father, a good neighbor and a true and trusted friend to everyone. His greatest pride was his children and grandchildren.

Surviving besides his daughter and son are three grandchildren: Pamela Ann Mowell, Philip and Jean Ann McCleary, two brothers; Vernon of Adel and Curtis of Redfield, other relatives and host of friends.

Services were held on Thursday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran church of Van Meter, and burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.

MILLARD McCLEARY DIED NOVEMBER 2

Millard O. McCleary, long-time resident of Madison county, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Wildin hospital in Des Moines. He was 65 years of age.

Mr. McCleary was born near Winterset on Sept. 29, 1890, a son of John O. and Mary McCleary. His early boyhood was spent near Van Meter, and in 1908 he moved to the vicinity of Earlham.

He was married Feb. 16, 1916, to Esther McKibben of Earlham. Their married life was spent in farming near Earlham, with the exception of two years, from 1935 to 1937, during which they lived in Fontanelle. Mr. McCleary retired in 1949, because of ill health.

He was one of the builders of the present Penn Center church, where he was a long-time member. He served on the church board for many years.

His wife died last July 26. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Harold Mowell of Stuart; a son, LaVere McCleary of Dexter; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Vernon McCleary of Adel and Curtis McCleary of Redfield.

(Burial was made in the Penn Center cemetery)
