ESTHER McKIBBEN McCLEARY

Esther, daughter of Gideon S. and Jennie McKibben, was born on a farm five miles northeast of Earlham, on November 8, 1892, and departed this life at her home in Earlham on July 26, at the age of 62 years, eight months and 18 days.

She was one of eleven children. Her father and mother and two sisters, Gertie McKibben and Pearl Wright, preceded her in death. The surviving brothers and sisters are: Ed, of Arkansas; Dewey, of Lewellen, Nebraska, Wilda Morse of Patterson, Myrtle Ramsey, of Waukee; and Evert, Harry, Dene Armstong, and Nita McKibben, all of Earlham.

On February 16, 1916, Esther became the wife of Millard McCleary of Earlham. They were the parents of three children; Herbert Earl, who died in infancy; Lenore, now Mrs. Harold Mowell of Stuart; and LaVere of Dexter. Except for the first year when they lived on the farm where Esther grew up most of their married life was spent in Penn Township, until five years ago, when they moved to their present home in Earlham.

Esther was a faithful member of the Penn Center Methodist Church, and a loyal worker in it's Woman's Society of Christian Service. A devoted wife and mother, she found her greatest joy in her home and family. She was never happier than when with her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend; to know her was to love her.

Besides her husband, son and daughter, she leaves to mourn her passing, three grandchildren; Pamela Ann Mowell, Philip and Jean Ann MCleary, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
