Obituary

Gideon S. McKibben, son of Samuel and Mary was born in Brown County, Ohio, Jan. 4th 1855 and with his parents came to Dallas County the same year, having lived on the same farm ever since. He died at his home March 1st, 1916 at 12:30 at the age of 61 years, 1 month and 26 days.

He was married to Jennie Mark July 20th, 1876. To this union were born 11 children, one of whom Gertrude, the eldest, died at the age of 23 years. The other ten, Ed, Pearl, Evert, Wilda, Harry, Myrtle, Esther, Dene, Dewey, and Nita are still living to mourn with their mother the loss of husband and father.

He was stricken with apoplexy of the brain in December and while at times he seemed better, he gradually grew weaker and was not considered so seriously ill until the last few days, when he failed very rapidly. He bore his affliction patiently and his whole mind was centered on one thing and that was for the boys to take care of mother, as he would not be here. Death came without a struggle, seemingly to go to sleep in the arms of Jesus. He leaves behind to cherish his memory a wife, 10 children, 16 grandchildren, 2 sisters, 4 brothers and host of other relatives and friends to mourn his untimely death.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hicks of Dallas Center, assisted by Rev. Hulse of the U. B. church at Hickory Grove.

Interment was made at the McKibben Cemetery.
