BYRON B. McKIBBEN

Byron B. McKibben was born on a farm five miles northeast of Earlham, on June 21, 1884, and died in Oskaloosa, Iowa, at 7:10 a.m. on the morning of November 26, 1954, at home of a relative, after enjoying a Thanksgiving holiday. He was 70 years old.

He was the oldest son of S. S. and Lily Ann McKibben. Practically all of his life has been lived in and around Earlham, with the exception of fifteen years when he worked at the Polk County Home at Des Moines, and six years lived at Johnson Station, Iowa. For the past fifteen months he has served at night marshal for the town of Earlham.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mabel, and nephew, Don Sparrow, who has made his home with them. He leaves, also two daughters by a former marriage-Mrs. Lois Kook of Peoria, Illinois, and Mrs. Griselda Crosswait of Vinton, Iowa, and six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Three sisters and two brothers also survive- Mrs. Leonard Cook of Earlham; Mrs. V. L. Middleton and Mrs. L. E. McClaran and Scott McKibben of Des Moines; and Carrall McKibben of Boise, Idaho.

He was a lover of horses, a good neighbor, and always a willing helper when needed. He was a good husband and a lover of Children, having served as foster parents to several homeless children during and after the war.

He was a member of the Earlham Saddle Club, and of the Earlham Friends Church. He leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn their loss in his passing.

Funeral services were held in the Earlham Friends Church on Sunday afternoon, November 28, with the pastor, L. Willard Reynolds, in charge. Interment was in the McKibben cemetery northeast of Earlham.

BYRON MCKIBBAN OF EARLHAM DIES

Byron B. McKibben, for most of his life resident of Earlham community, died Friday Nov. 26, at the home of a relative in Oskaloosa, where he had been spending the Thanksgiving holiday. He was 70 years of age.

Mr. McKibben was born June 21, 1884, on a farm five miles northeast of Earlham, a son of S. S. and Lily A. McKibben.

His life was spent in and near Earlham; except for the few years he worked at the Polk county home in Des Moines and at Johnston Station. During the last 15 months he had served as night marshall at Earlham.

He was a member of the Earlham Friends church.

Mr. McKibben was known as an enthusiastic horseman and was a member of the Earlham Saddle club. He is survived by his wife, Mabel; two daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Lois Cook of Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Griselda Crosswalt of Vinton; six grandchildren; nephew, Don Sparrow, who made his home with Mr. McKibben; and three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Leonald Cook of Earlham, Mrs. V. L. Middleton, Mrs. L. E. McClaran and Scott McKibben of Des Moines; and Carroll McKibben of Boise, Ida.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Earlham Friends church, conducted by the Rev. L. Willard Reynolds. Burial was made in the McKibben cemetery.
