EFFIE MAY BARNETT

Effie May Barnett, daughter of Will and Anna Hadley Barnett, was born September 7th, 1879, at their farm home in Bear Creek neighborhood.

In 1891 the family moved to a new home at Salem, Oregon. A few years later, in search of a milder climate, they moved to King City, Califronia, where both parents passed away within a few months of each other. Soon after the father's death Effie and her three younger sisters returned to the homes of relatives at Bear Creek.

On May 26th, 1903, she was united in marriage to Bert J. Barnett. They immediately established their home on a homestead near Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, where their two sons were born. After about five years in Canada they returned to the Bear Creek community which has been her home ever since except for one year when she and her husband lived in Redfield.

A daughter was born after their return to the States. The three children, Willard C., Clyde A. and Maudie Applegate all have homes in the Bear Creek neighborhood.

After the death of her husband on November 1st, 1944, Effie continued to reside on the home place until the summer of 1955. Since then she has been at the home of her daughter Mrs. Russell Applegate, where she passed away March 17th, 1957, having reached the age of more than 77 years.

Effie was a birthright member of the Bear Creek Friends Church, a charter member of the Athenian Sunday School class and a loyal member of the Women's Missionary Society. She was a helpful friends (friend) and neighbor and devoted to her home and family for whose comfort and welfare she gave unsparingly of her time and energy. During her last few years she had spent much time in the hospital where she was known as a cheerful and uncomplaining patient.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Elda, who died when a young girl; one brother, Loren, of Salem, Oregon; and one grandson, Marvin Barnett of Bear Creek.

She is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren; also three sisters; Bessie Barnett of Bell, California; Mrs. Loyd Cook, and Mrs. Bernard Cook, both of Earlham; one aunt, Mrs. Abbie Cook, also of Earlham; a number of nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.
