BERT J. BARNETT

In the little cabin on the farm home of Isaac and Sarah Barnett, there came on June 17th, 1881, a little boy. They named him Bert J.

His coming brought much joy and pleasure to the parents and sister, Minnie.

His early life was spent in the Bear Creek community, near Earlham, Iowa, where he attended the Bear Creek school, and Earlham Academy.

On May 26th, 1903, he was united in marriage to Effie M. Barnett. They immediately went to house-keeping on a homestead near Reddeer, Alberta Canada, where they lived for about five yeas. They then returned to the Bear Creek community where the remainder of his life was spent with the exception of a year in Redfield.

Into this home came three children. Willard C. of Linden; Clyde A. of Earlham, and Maudie Applegate, of Redfield.

Bert was a birthright member of the Bear Creek Friends Church, and was reared in a home where daily teaching from the Bible was given concerning the way of life.

He was a charter member of the Athenian Sunday School class, and also served as trustee of the church for several years.

His greatest interest was centered in his home and family, but was never too busy to extend a helping hand to a friend and neighbor.

Because of failing health, he found it necessary to retire from active farm work.

He was taken seriously ill on October 28th and was taken to the hospital where all was done that skilled physicians and loving hands could do.

In a few conscious moments, he told the family of his plans for the funeral and expressed his desire and readiness to go. The end came on November 1st, 1944, just at the hour he had desired, with the setting of sun.

He leaves to mourn his passing, a wife, three children, one sister, six grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends.
