OBITUARY

William Grant Armstrong, son of William and Rebecca Armstrong, was born February 27, 1866, near Clarksville, Ohio, and died August 24, 1934 at 934 19th Street, Des Moines, Iowa.

When but a lad he, with his mother, sister and step-father left Ohio and settled on a farm near Earlham, doing farm work for a number of years.

When the first Rural Mail Route was established out of Earlham, he was chosen as the first carrier.

After serving in this capacity for at least two years, he resigned and accepted a position in the post office at this place.

Soon after leaving the Post Office at Earlham, he entered the employ of the Merchant's Transfer Company of Des Moines, which position he has faithfully served for at least thirty years, or until his health failed last December. In fact, he never fully recovered from a serious operation performed, perhaps, twenty years ago, but kept steadily at his work until his final breakdown in December.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his sister Mrs. Mary J. Wynkoop, the only surviving member of this family, and a host of relatives and friends.
