ESLA ATHERTON BAKER

Esla Atherton Baker was born December 12, 1879 at Mazon, Illinois and departed this life March 30, 1948 at the age of 68 years, three months and 18 days.

He was the only child of James A. and Mary Baker and at the age of four moved with his parents to Pawnee City, Nebraska, where he farmed with his father and grew to young manhood. They moved to Earlham, Iowa, in 1900.

On December 17, 1902 he was united in marriage with Aletha Stanley. To this union three daughters were born: Lilith Hauswirth of Shenandoah, Iowa; Elsie Gunnar of Oskaloosa, and Sarah Suttle of Crossville, Tennessee.

Mr. Baker belonged to the Methodist Church in Nebraska and later with his wife joned the Earlham Friends Church.

In the fall of 1919 Mr. Baker, with his family moved to Oskaloosa, in order that his children might have the advatage of a college education. He was a quiet industrous man, fond of children and especially devoted to his grandchildren.
