ALBERT LEROY ARMSTRONG

Albert Leroy Armstrong, eldest child of Christina Vandt and John R. Armstrong, was born at Stuart, Iowa September 16, 1884 where he spent his boyhood and attended the public school.

On February 24, 1909 he was united in marriage to Amy Black of Dexter. They were the parents of two daughters, Dawn and Juanita.

Albert was engaged in farming in Madison county until they moved to Dexter, when he became active in the livestock buying business there.

In 1963 they moved to Adel to make their home. On October 5, 1951 Amy was taken from him by death.

On April 5, 1953 Albert was united in marriage to Sue Forrester, who has been his devoted wife and faithful compaion until his death.

Albert was a member of the Adel United Methodist Church. He was very civic minded and served both as council member and mayor in Dexter and Adel.

For many years he was a member of the Earlham baseball team.

Albert was an ardent fisherman and pheasant hunter and was an active member of the Adel Sportsman's Club for many years.

After moving to Adel, his many hours spent in his flower gardens brought beauty to is family and friends to enjoy.

Albert passed away Friday evening August 20, at the Dexter Clinic hospital after several weeks of failing health, at the age of 86 yeaars, 11 months and 4 days.

He is survived by his wife Sue, his daughter Juanita Crawford, two sisters-Nora Jensen and Lucile Lewis, both of DeSoto, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, Sue's two daughters-Lee Smith of Frazier Park, California and Mary Braden of Red Oak, many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one daughter Dawn Jorgensen of Ames, one infant grandson, three brothers and two sisters.

Services were held Monday afternoon at the Adel Methodist Church with Reverend Potter in charge. Soloist was Bob fisher. Casket bearers were Mervyn Armstrong, Royal and Carol Bond, Robert and John Jensen and Eugene Armstrong, all nephews of Mr. Armstrong.

Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery.
